My Insights: (Greek Culture)

Based on my studies on my English IV subject, these are the things I can say about Greeks culture.

As we all know, Ancient Greeks really do believed in gods and goddesses like Zeus, Hera, Phoebus, Poseidon, Hermes, Athena, Aphrodite, Demeter, etc.;

furthermore, they offer religious sacrifices and prayers to seek favors from their gods. The gods and goddesses played a great role to their life and even poetry like “The Iliad and The Odyssey” done by the blind poet, Homer.

On it, Greek cultures were also exhibit; on how the husbands treat their wife; what are their responsibilities on them; what are the rights of women as Greek; moreover, poor women often worked outside the home to assist their husband as slaves. It was women who supervised the slaves and managed the household responsibilities, such as cooking and weaving. But this poetry, made by Homer, tells us that “Woman is the weaknesses of man” although on women has no freedom yet that time. And “Greek gods and goddesses control the faith of one’s Greek people life.” But as a Christian I do believed that our God control us and made us with a GREAT PURPOSES.

The Solely "Achilles"

The fiercest warrior of Achaeans, son of Peleus and Thesis who killed Priam’s greatest sons including Hector, the one who killed Achilles’ cousin Patroclus.

By Achilles’ firmness and fast reflex of his body he can kill thousands of warriors in a certain war. Because of these, he is considered as a porously warrior in Greece. He is also demigod whose faith is to die in the hands of the two great warriors, Paris and Phoebus Apollo. These are the things I know about Achilles the dangerous warrior in the epitome of epics.

Achilles was compared to a star named “Orion’s Dog” that brings wretched mortals fever. His bronze chest glittered like that star
(paragraph 40. Book 22).

Every time he walks through the battle field his blazing eyes made the enemy shake in fear, his shining helmet and armor that guards him through the powerful attacks of the his foe, and the courage to win the battle. Achilles butchered the body corpse of the greatest warrior he had killed; its children were tossed down to the ground by his will. He was a fearless person that strike warrior’s head with his sharp bronze spear. He also attempts to catch the god of medicine, light and music, Apollo that helped Hector to kill his loved cousin, Patroclus
(paragraph 10p.Book 22).

But Achilles died in short term with glory and famous to all NATION

GREATNESS OF COURAGE

One of the hottest 2009 scandals that for me; placed an intriguing mark in show business, “the Katrina Halili-Hayden Co sex video”. The sex video became popular in the news and in the internet particularly in YoutubeTM. Many controversies about it were spread in the news especially on tabloids. The parties involved in the scandals were Katrina Halili, one of the famous sexy stars on GMA and models on FHM magazines and Hayden Co, Katrina Halili’s boyfriend and one of the respectful doctors of Belo medical group. Their fans were disappointed; some are angry which negatively affected their career.

On Katrina Halili filed a case in the court against Hayden Co. Gabriela, a pro-women coalition and Senator Bong Revilla Jr. supported Katrina Halili’s case. Along the case Mr. Chua, friend of Hayden Co and Dra. Vicky Belo, ex-boyfriend of Hayden Co were also involved. They were accused of spreading copies of the sex video. The case lasts for several months. At first, at the flow of the case was in favor of Katrina Halili, but Hayden Co paid for a ransom and turned out to be in favor to him…

One think that comes to my mined was Katrina Halili still found her self useful for helping others especially women from abused and exploitation of their rights as a citizen, although Hayden Co was not acquitted. Currently, Katrina Halili is an active member of Gabriela movement.

Her fight wasn’t over! Now that she already knew her rights. She stood with dignity, courage, and strength to face the world. I didn’t think the scandal made here life be ruined instead it made her stand for a lesson to move on.

Training Grounds To Success

SO TIRED!! :(
Wayback 2008, the struggles for working on abundant assignments and seatworks made my very 1st day of my 1st year high school life in Taytay United Methodist Christian School. But the whole month was worse. This was the stage where I experienced stress and over fatigue for doing many assignments and research overnight. I thought of transferring to other school but there I realized that I should continue. My one month stay in TUMCS defined what this institution is.-that this served as a training ground for college. I thought that doing those assignments and research helped me to become responsible and I know once I leave this school I can stand out.

I encourage students out there to enter TUMCS. This institution provides high quality educational support relative to the integration of intellectual, physical, spiritual and social welfare of its people. I know college is easy because of TUMCS!

YEHEY!!!

Heart of English

Why students create grammatical errors?
What are their common mistakes?

Writing is an art that reflects a person. Common errors occur when the rules are violated, like in subject-verb agreement there are rules created, and many students do not follow it some says “ A boy with his friends go out.” It’s definitely wrong because, intervening phrases or clauses (with his friends) do not affect the subject-verb agreement it must be “A boy with his friends goes out.” Redundancy is one of the common errors of the students. Redundancy is repetition of ideas for example “In this modern world of ours, man nowadays is fast becoming a Frankenstein.” Thus, we should not apply it because makes the readers confused. This is the correct one “Modern man is fast becoming a Frankenstein. Shifting of tenses also observed. And the funniest errors create by the students is the incorrect usage of punctuation marks.

Grammar and literature are related to one another because; you cannot construct a masterpiece by just doing it without knowing the grammar rules and if your grammar is full of mistakes. To correct all the mistakes, you need to have a pursuing heart. A heart that will guide you to have better writing abilities and to gain proficiency in English grammars even in jotting down each strange and difficult word you encounter during your class hours. To have this heart you should comprehend with your professors and have a desire to be a one of the greatest philosophers in the world.

Great Determination

“Fairness in every competition must be done by the competitors. Thus, others do it vise versa.”

Intramural happened last week is still a mystery in one’s mind. JUNIORS or the 3rd year level was able to show their very best in the event and they present surprising numbers that amazed the teachers, students and even the judges. Teamwork courage and strong determination to win in the competition brought them confidence to face the competition as well as the ball games. Because of that it resulted to the JUNIORS to win in cheering and in ballroom dancing. 3rd year students almost got the awards and prizes in basketball by III-Rebekah, badminton by the III-Leah and III-Rebekah and volleyball by my beloved section III-Rachel. I belong to the first six of my team in volleyball. First I am glad that we have no lost. So we need to be beat by twice. We ask the commentator about that to confirm if it was true because my teammates and I were nervous in our next fight with IV-Solomon. But the commentator said to us “Kapag natalo na kayo dito sa IV-Solomon laglag na kayo. Wala na kayong susunod na laro.” So we think that was not fair. Before the game starts we forgot to pray. And we were near to be defeated by the 4th year in the 1st set. So during the time out we began to pray and dedicate the game to Him. Because of that we won in our match in the score of 3 out of 5 sets respectively. And we were able to enter the championship match with the lower levels. The next day, the championship was near already and the II-Isaiah will be our opponent. We ask questions again to the commentator for the clarifications of the game sets. And they said there were only 3 sets. We are shocked about what the commentator said. I said to my teammates “Championship ba yon? Tatlong sets lang? Kahapon sa Solomon 5 sets tapos sa II-Isaiah 3 sets lang. Grabe ha!” We just ignored about what biases done by them and I hope they will realize that they should not do it again.

And with the prayer in God we defeated the II-Isaiah and we become the champion in volleyball in the 26th Foundation Week of TUMCS. The greatest things I’ve learn in this intramural are being strong, willing to face the problems whether it is not too much complicated and have a great determination to survive.

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”
II Timothy 2:15

Allowance

Teacher: “Oh! Yan na soup mo!”

This scenario happened when I was in grade six. My teacher and I were compromising about me not having to buy several foods of her merchandise. I was so terrified of her that moment because she warned me that she would put a minus on my science quiz that day, plus the fact that I was the center of attention in class at that very point of time. I knew that, I had to maximize my six-peso allowance every day. But it was so difficult to save and to budget.

But that didn’t end from it my classmates used to tease me each day. And if there were barkada bonding or hangouts they would not invite me. I wasn’t able to buy enough for myself. This discrimination cause troubles of building my self-confidence. There were times that I was shy of having to wear my dull and faded old jeans and clothes when all of my friends were wearing their new ones. And there were sad times that I needed to skip lunch to buy school stuffs for my projects.

Discrimination was everywhere-the more I had to stay firm. Indeed, we have two choices it was either you let it affected you negatively or surrender yourself to God and let Him fulfill all the weaknesses that you have. And there were two more things that I seek my strength to stay firm from that discrimination. That is my family who guides me all the time and always there to help me. And last, my inspiration that change my life.
